WATERLOO, Ontario and BOSTON, April 3, 2011 /CNW/ - TribeHR, the leading social human resources software suite, today announced the expansion of its online service to support company values and social goals. TribeHR's new release expands its award-winning suite in order to better help organizations develop and support a strong workplace culture.

"Great companies are built around strong cultures, but the tools to manage and measure culture in the workplace were unavailable to small and medium businesses until now," said Joseph Fung, chief executive officer of TribeHR. "Our approach to HR has always been social, open and measurable. Our new version takes this a step further by directly connecting employee behavior and accomplishments to values and results. We call it rhythm—it gives an organization the ability to measure and constantly enhance its culture in real-time."

TribeHR's latest release allows a company to document, showcase and reinforce its guiding principles and core strengths. Once a company has defined its values, all employee activities, goals and social actions are automatically linked back to them, allowing employee behaviors and activities to be publicly recognized and celebrated. The TribeHR platform securely stores this information for easy access by employees and managers, making it instantly available for use during performance reviews.

TribeHR's new version also supports social goals, which allow individual goals to be shared with other employees in a company. Comments are stored and success is tracked, enabling managers and co-workers to follow and recognize progress in real-time.

By expanding its social HR software suite with new tools that share and measure core values, TribeHR empowers companies to better manage and monitor their corporate culture. Values and social goals provide a continuous assessment of how well the culture resonates and is being supported by employees. Since goals and kudos can be tied to corporate values, the solution helps companies better identify individual employees who best represent those values, and who can serve as mentors for others.

"Our new release enhances our HR suite by extending our integrated time off tracking, employee directory database, application tracking and performance management suite with the capacity to measure and promote a company's culture," added Fung. "For the first time, companies can now manage and monitor their corporate culture in real-time."

Pricing
TribeHR offers three pricing packages for companies of any size to create a social HR solution that fits their unique needs. Prices range from $2-10 per user/month. For more details, or to start a 60-day free trial, visit: www.tribehr.com.

MARKHAM, ON, April 2, 2012 /CNW/ - Nightingale Informatix Corporation ("Nightingale" or the "Company") (TSX-V: NGH), an application service provider (ASP) of electronic medical record (EMR) software and related services, announces that Nightingale on Demand is the first electronic medical record system to receive jurisdictional certification in Nova Scotia from Canada Health Infoway.  Nova Scotia doctors who use it now have an extra level of security.

"Electronic medical records provide doctors with timely access to patient records so that Nova Scotians receive better care sooner," said Maureen MacDonald, Minister of Health and Wellness. "I want to congratulate Nightingale on achieving certification because about 900 front line health care providers in Nova Scotia use the Nightingale system."

To meet certification, the software underwent rigorous evaluation and testing to show that it met privacy and security standards set by Canada Health Infoway.

"As the leading web-based electronic medical record in Canada, Nightingale on Demand provides the highest levels of security and privacy to ensure patient information is properly secure and protected," said John Bodolai, executive vice-president of Nightingale. "We are extremely proud to be the first electronic medical records vendor to receive jurisdictional certification with the province of Nova Scotia."

Electronic medical records provide physicians with comprehensive access to patient information, increase productivity by reducing paperwork, and ultimately provide better quality of care for patients.

Managing patient care also becomes more efficient. For patients with chronic conditions, an electronic medical record can flag when the patient is due for an appointment or important procedure.

Physicians are able to proactively follow-up with patients for routine check-ups and tests, and easily identify patients to contact in the case of a medication recall.

About Nightingale

Nightingale is one of the fastest growing health care service and software companies in North America and is recognized as an industry leader in Web-based clinician and community based electronic medical records (EMR) serving the needs of small primary care practices, multi-physician outpatient clinics, and large scale regional health organizations and networks. Acoustic Innovation - e-sound by Audi

A control unit generates sound based on signals from the car
A loudspeaker broadcasts the sound signature

To view the Multimedia News Release, please click: http://multivu.prnewswire.com/mnr/prne/audi/53802

INGOLSTADT, Germany, April 5, 2012 /CNW/ - Audi's future e-tron models will cover long distances powered by practically silent electric motors. To ensure that pedestrians in urban settings will hear them, the brand has developed a synthetic solution: Audi e-sound.

Rudolf Halbmeir's workstation is not exactly typical of an Audi engineer. There is a digital piano on his desk, two studio-quality loudspeakers next to his computer monitor, and a pile of music magazines off to the side. "A car's sound," says Halbmeir, an acoustics engineer, "is similar to music."

Sound is an especially exciting aspect of a vehicle. Although it can be described in physical terms, there is no substitute for experiencing it firsthand. A car's sound is emotional, not intellectual. Although we consciously register a car's sounds only occasionally while on the road, they are always there - playing a crucial role in the driving experience. Sounds send signals. Low-range frequencies suggest power and composure, while mid-range frequencies emit sportiness and agility.

All Audi models produce sound signatures which are not only well-rounded and harmonious, but also broadcast performance, premium quality and respectability. "Good sound design is a complex endeavor," explains Dr. Ralf Kunkel, Head of Acoustics at Audi. "We have gathered a lot of expertise over the years. We have also learned how to amplify pleasant frequencies and to suppress unpleasant noises."

OTTAWA, April 10, 2012 /CNW/ - Small and medium-sized businesses across Canada can now find and better target prospective customers with an easy-to-use online tool offered by Canada Post. Precision Targeter allows businesses to zero in on their target customers at the neighbourhood level based on demographic information such as household income, education, age and marital status.

The free tool (canadapost.ca/precisiontargeter) combines Canada Post's complete address database with Canadian census data to provide detailed information so direct marketing becomes more targeted. Users can plan, price and place their Unaddressed Admail orders in minutes, 24 hours a day.

Communitech Launches $30 Million Program for High-Potential Tech Startups

$

WATERLOO REGION, ON, April 10, 2012 /CNW/ - Canadian tech startup companies now have a new avenue to commercialize innovations, scale their businesses faster and achieve market success with the introduction of Communitech's HYPERDRIVE program that will provide capital of up to $700,000 for high-potential companies - with a  $30 million program to draw on. Backed by key investment firms and angel funders, service providers, strategic partners and mentors, Communitech plans to put innovation into HYPERDRIVE.

"We're revving up the opportunity for tech startups to get traction in the industry sooner, with more support from investors," said Iain Klugman, CEO of Communitech, the organization representing 800 tech companies in Waterloo Region. "HYPERDRIVE will speed time to market and help surface the next big tech stars in Canada and beyond."

Building on the success of funding incubators YCombinator in Silicon Valley, TechStars in Boulder, Boston, New York City and Seattle, and 500 Startups in Silicon Valley, Communitech's HYPERDRIVE is the next-generation of this type of program. HYPERDRIVE will provide expert mentoring, support from service providers such as legal and accounting firms, and seed funding -- advancing to angel investment and ultimately to "Series A" VC funders. Unlike other existing programs, HYPERDRIVE will take promising startups through their full early-stage development, with ongoing mentoring for two years per startup. Communitech has a 15-year history of fueling innovation through strategic programs, providing support to tech companies at all stages of their development, from startup through small-medium business, to multi-national enterprises.

"Attention has been paid recently to an innovation gap in Canada which is essentially 'failure to launch' from the inception of a great tech idea to commercialization," said Klugman. "This is a program designed to close that gap and see an increase in investment in Canada's tech sector that will result in more jobs and increased growth."

HYPERDRIVE will operate from The Communitech Hub in Waterloo Region which is a 44,000 square foot facility dedicated to digital media innovation, leveraging locations in New York and Silicon Valley. Based on an application process, cohorts of 10 companies will be accepted up to three times annually.

The program will enable 'soft landings' for Canadian companies to experience operating in foreign markets. Other program features will include one-to-one coaching; workshops; events; 'capital collision days' enabling fortuitous pairings of investors and startups; and demo days. Executives-in-Residence and a deep bench of global mentors, strategic partners and service providers supportive of the program will execute on the HYPERDRIVE program.

A detailed overview of the program, funding partners and strategic partners, and in-kind services and products plus application for start-ups will be available Tuesday, April 17th 2012 at www.communitech.ca/hyperdrive.

Canada and Ontario Governments, IBM, U of T, Western U | Water, Energy, Healthcare Research

TORONTO, April 10, 2012 /CNW/ - The Governments of Canada and Ontario, with IBM (NYSE: IBM) and a consortium of seven universities led by the University of Toronto and Western University today announced they are collaborating to establish a new Ontario-based $210 million dollar research and development initiative that will create 145 new highly skilled jobs in Ontario and a new economic cornerstone for the country.

IBM will invest up to $175 million through December 2014 in the project, forming the "IBM Canada Research and Development Centre" to serve as a foundation for the research initiative. The Government of Ontario is investing $15 million towards the creation of this Centre; ensuring that the skills needed for developing future information and communications technology products and services are fostered in Ontario, new and existing Ontario companies are leaders in their fields, and innovation efficiencies and cost-savings are created across multiple sectors.

The Government of Canada will contribute $20 million to allow a consortium of seven southern Ontario post-secondary institutions and its lead industry partner, IBM, to install two high-performance IBM Blue Gene/Q supercomputers and develop a cloud computing and agile computing platform to underpin the initiative's research collaboration. The university consortium will have access to a new Barrie-based IBM data centre once it is fully operational in the fall of 2012. Other Canadian researchers and small to medium-sized enterprises will also be invited to join the consortium.

This collaborative model will help university and industry researchers use high performance and cloud computing infrastructure to better manage and analyze massive data sets to solve critical world challenges. Areas of focus for the research collaboration will include:

  • Problems facing cities, including rapid urbanization and aging infrastructure.
  • Healthcare challenges associated with rising healthcare costs due to chronic diseases, including afflictions of the brain, and the lengthy development cycle for new medicines.
  • Water conservation and management within cities and across watersheds including wild areas, industrial and agricultural use.
  • Efficient energy conservation and management through the application of advanced weather modeling and smart grid technologies.
  • Software innovation in high performance computing platforms.

The unique virtual structure of the network will allow IBM research staff to work side-by-side with many of Canada's world-renowned, top scientists. This collaborative model and close day-to-day interaction is expected to accelerate commercialization opportunities and strengthen Canada's digital infrastructure. We expect to add additional partners to this world-class collaboration as the project becomes fully operational.

IBM had the third largest corporate R&D investment in Canada last year*. For IBM, the Centre represents its first formal research and development lab in Canada. It will serve as a robust extension to IBM's more than $6 billion investment in worldwide research and development, which helped generate over $1.7 billion in exports for Canada.

"Canada needs more knowledge-based industries to diversify our national economic portfolio beyond the current over-weighting of commodities and natural resources and help eliminate our identified innovation gap'," said Professor David Naylor, president, University of Toronto. "This collaborative initiative takes direct aim at these issues by creating modern research networks that bring advanced computing capacity to bear on important issues such as: water monitoring, management and distribution; energy monitoring and management; urban planning and traffic management for intelligent cities; and the cross-walk of brain science with artificial intelligence."

"Western has long been at the forefront of Canadian research that capitalizes on high-performance computing, and we are excited about our role within this consortium to take the next step by using cloud computing to manage the staggering volume of digital data society creates on a daily basis," said Dr. Amit Chakma, president, Western University. "From neuroscience and our environment, to other industrial applications, this field holds tremendous promise for helping us make complex research decisions more quickly, while mining data for better answers."

CDMN Canada 3.0 2012 Attracts Delegation from Brazil - Joint Vision for Collaboration on Innovation

$

STRATFORD, ON, April 13, 2012 /CNW/ - Realizing an objective announced by Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff in August, 2011, the CDMN Canada 3.0 digital media forum will include a breakout stream customized for a delegation of more than 30 representatives from Brazil when the forum convenes here April 24-25, 2012. Brazil, the 6th largest economy in the world, is interested in collaborating with Canada to expand the digital media forum concept to Brazil and enhance business opportunities between the two countries.

"We're delighted to host this delegation from Brazil, a collaboration made possible through  efforts of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada," said Kevin Tuer, Managing Director of the Canadian Digital Media Network, the organization responsible for staging Canada's premier digital media forum annually. "We're looking forward to sharing the progress in digital media innovation achieved to date through the continuous process of Canada 3.0 forums and consultations, and also to discuss the work that remains to be done in making Canada a leader in digital media."

Brazil's participation was undertaken as part of Canada-Brazil initiatives under the bilateral Science, Technology and Innovation Agreement. Canadian and Brazilian partners from industry, academia and government are collaborating on joint research and development (R&D) projects, conferences and workshops like CDMN Canada 3.0, equipment loans and student exchanges.

The 4th annual CDMN Canada 3.0 digital media forum will bring together all sectors in industry, government, and academia to advance the adoption of digital media technologies in Canada. Given that this year's agenda was built upon recommendations from a cross-Canada tour undertaken over the last six months, the event represents a broad spectrum of opinion on how Canada should advance its efforts to lead in an increasingly digital global economy.

"Brazil could have requested participation in any activity in Canada, and they chose the CDMN Canada 3.0 digital media forum which speaks volumes for the importance of this event to the digital media sector and Canada as a whole," said Tom Jenkins, Chair of the CDMN Board and Executive Chairman and Chief Strategy Officer at OpenText. Jenkins will be a keynote speaker on the opening day of the forum.

Attention has been focused lately in Canada on the innovation gap, where there is a disconnect between generation of innovative ideas and ability to take those ideas to a commercial product. There will be many examples at Canada 3.0 of how programs deliberately executed can foster digital media innovation, Tuer said, including:

  • Road to Banff: a pitch-off event featuring 100 startups from across Canada vying for endorsement and the opportunity for sponsorship to the Banff Venture Forum;
  • Showcase of Communitech HYPERDRIVE: shining a light on a new tech incubation program to attract more investment to Canadian startups and speed time to market for innovative technology;
  • The University of Waterloo's REAP program: using breakthrough digital display technologies to create new commercially viable solutions involving undergraduate students innovating in a 'living lab'
  • An innovation stream led by Gerri Sinclair, Executive Director of the Masters of Digital Media Program at Northern Way campus in B.C., and Jim Milway, Executive Director of the Martin Prosperity Institute at the Rotman School of Management in Toronto, with a roster of other key speakers, addressing Canada's innovation gap.

Full information on the forum is available at: www.canada30.ca and you can follow CDMN Canada 3.0 2012 on Twitter @Can3_0 or join the conversation using #CDA30.

Abacast Announces Personalized Live Radio, Blending Live Broadcasts With Personalized Playlists

$

VANCOUVER, WA--(Marketwire - Apr 12, 2012) - Abacast, a leading provider of cloud-based streaming and advertising management services for the online radio industry, announced Personalized Live Radio, a new service that combines the live and local content of radio with music personalization features found until now only on Internet-based music services.

With Personalized Live Radio (PLR), broadcasters preserve their differentiation from personalized playlist services, namely live topical and local content delivered by engaging on-air personalities, while adding music personalization features found in services such as Pandora.

"All media is moving from a push model to a pull model, with users having a large say in what media they consume, how they consume it, and where they consume it," said Rob Green, Abacast CEO. "Personalized Live Radio enables broadcasters to offer a unique and relevant product for today's consumer that combines the best of radio with personalization and interactivity."

PLR works by operating in the cloud and integrating three core services:

  • Abacast's patent-pending Cloud-Based Insertion technology, which manages individual live streams, inserts personalized content and advertisements, and synchronizes the timing of the streams so that one continuous stream is heard by the listener.
  • The Abacast Clarity™ Digital Radio System, which provides ad campaign management, trafficking, and reporting for in-stream audio, pre-, mid-, and post-roll video ads, and companion and display banners.
  • A song personalization engine, which generates custom music playlists based on the station playlist, individual artists or songs, and listener customization.

When music is played via PLR, listeners can choose to listen to songs curated by the station, artist or song-based stations, or a "genius" station based on each listener's general song likes and dislikes. Various advertising opportunities can be played or displayed at granular points in the service including on session startup, during standard "commercial breaks," during the personalized music blocks, and on listener interactions such as skips.

With PLR, broadcasters preserve the investments they have in infrastructure, people, and processes while adding new personalization services that listeners are demanding. Current music personalization services can drastically lower their performance royalty costs by including relevant live and local content.

Personalized Live Radio is targeted to be released in Q3 2012.

BlackBerry Triumphs in Enterprise-ready OS Battle, Apple #2

$

OTTAWA, April 13, 2012 /CNW/ - The newest findings from Trend Micro, Inc. (TYO: 4704;TSE: 4704) a global leader in cloud-based security software and services, compare the ability of several different mobile platforms to meet the demands of use in the enterprise.  Canada's own BlackBerry 7.0 scored highest across the board, ahead of Apple iOS5, Windows Phone 7.5 and Google's Android 2.3.  Altimeter Group, Bloor Research and Trend Micro's own specialists carried out the research.

BlackBerry attained the highest average score (2.89), followed by iOS (1.7), Windows Phone (1.61) and Android (1.37). The platforms were each scored on a combination of factors including built-in security, application security, authentication, device wipe, device firewall, and virtualization.

Trend Micro's Key Findings:

BlackBerry -Corporate-grade security and manageability make this platform the option of choice for the most stringent mobile roles. However, many features and protections that are commonly enabled or enforceable via the BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) are not present on devices that are user-provisioned via BlackBerry Internet Services (BIS). In fact, some of the strongest features restricting high-risk activities that users may undertake, such as removal of password protection for the device, may be rendered inactive if a user's device is not provisioned via the BES.

Apple - The iOS application architecture provides user protection because all applications are "sand-boxed" in a common memory environment.  Security in iOS also extends to the physical attributes of the iPhone and iPad.  There are no options for adding removable storage, which in effect provides another layer of protection for users. Apple also compares favourably to BlackBerry insofar as the BlackBerry IT administrator has complete control over the device, while with Apple's iOS, an IT department can only configure items once the user has supplied his or her permission.

Windows Phone - Microsoft has created a reasonably robust and secure smartphone operating system in Windows Phone. The OS uses privileges and isolation techniques to create sandbox processes. These "chambers" are based on a policy system that, in turn, defines which system features the processes operating in a chamber can be accessed.

Android - Although Android is now available in more recent versions (4.x), version 2.x is still the most widely deployed on existing and new handsets. This is a security risk in itself; with no central means of providing Operating System updates, meaning that many users remain unprotected from critical vulnerabilities for a prolonged period. On the plus side, it is a privilege-separated operating system and applications can't access the network without prior consent. Apps run in their individual sandboxed environment and permissions are granted by the user on a per app basis.  Unfortunately the end user often fails to closely inspect the permissions request dialogue in their haste to use the app. It is often unclear, when permissions are given, what the application is actually capable of.

"The continuing explosion of BYOD (bring your own device) coupled with the consumerization of IT continues to make every mobile device a risk to business. While some mobile devices manufacturers provide enterprise grade security capability, organizations need to protect their valuable data regardless of the device their employees choose to use." Commented Jim Short, Trend Micro Canada General Manager.

The report is available here www.trendmicro.com/cloud-content/us/pdfs/business/reports/rpt_enterprise_readiness_consumerization_mobile_platforms.pdf

Program to Improve Driving Behaviours of Young Drivers | Mobiliz, from Industrial Alliance

$

QUEBEC CITY, April 11, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - Today, Industrial Alliance, Insurance and Financial Services Inc. has launched Mobiliz, a societal initiative aimed at improving driving behaviours and combating the speeding plague among drivers aged 16 to 24. Mobiliz is a new revolutionary auto insurance program based on the "Pay-As-You-Drive" concept, whose premium is primarily based on the drivers' behaviours than on their being part of a specific age group or on their claims history. Youths who adopt responsible driving behaviours can therefore benefit from the lowest rates in the industry.

This new method, a first in Canada, marks a genuine revolution in the area of auto insurance in Québec. Mobiliz's business model was designed such as to offer youths the lowest premium possible rather than to generate operating profits for Industrial Alliance. "For us, Mobiliz is first and foremost a cause, pointed out Industrial Alliance President and CEO, Mr. Yvon Charest. By this initiative, we wish to actively take part in solving a societal issue and save lives by way of what we do and know best, that is, insurance. If Mobiliz generates operating profits, these will be reinvested in the cause on the basis of a continuous improvement procedure where the program shall adjust to the needs and expectations expressed by the youths themselves".

According to the President and CEO of operations at Industrial Alliance Operations, Auto and Home Insurance Inc., Mr. Michel Laurin, "Mobiliz will enable youths who drive responsibly, but frustrated with their high premiums simply because they are young, to benefit from the lowest rates in the industry. As for youths who currently have extreme driving habits, Mobiliz will offer them the necessary financial incentives so that they can adopt more responsible driving habits. "

Use of Technology at the Service of Road Safety
Mobiliz relies on telematics technology. This simply means that each vehicle insured with Mobiliz will be granted free installation of a GPS-type module at one of the 220 certified installers across Québec who are members of the Belron (Lebeau, Duro) and Uniban (VitroPlus, Docteur du Pare-Brise) networks. The device, installed under the instrument panel and therefore not noticeable, monitors distance travelled as well as the three driving behaviours, that is, speeding, forced accelerations and hard brakings. The device also monitors location and time these behaviours were monitored.

Insured can accede to this data by way of a customized Web portal, where they can get the lowdown on their overall behaviours, enabling them to take the necessary corrective actions to their driving. In addition, every week, Mobiliz customers will receive an activity report on their behaviours and the impact these may have on their monthly bill. This report will also be accompanied by tips and hints for better driving awareness.

Another novelty: the Mobiliz program is 100% Web-based. All operations (getting a quote, purchase, payment, claims) are totally computerized and carried out online. Mobiliz agents are available, as needed, to chat with consumers.

A User-Friendly Method and Beneficial Premium
Mobiliz's basic premium is calculated by way of only four criteria: age, gender, postal code and insured vehicle. By simply answering four questions, a quote can therefore be completed in under one minute. Note that, in relation to traditional auto insurance programs, the age criteria was greatly disindexed to avoid unduly penalizing young drivers.

The premium then vary monthly in accordance with real kilometers driven as well as the driver's behaviours. In addition to benefiting from a basic premium that's already very competitive, Mobiliz's insured who adopt responsible behaviours obtain an additional discount that can reach up to 25% of their monthly premium. In return, drivers who do not adopt responsible driving behaviours are penalized in terms of the number of speeding offences, hard brakings and forced accelerations they do during the month. Excessive speeding offences as defined by the SAAQ have specific penalties.

Only distance travelled and behaviours monitored have an impact on the basic premium. The fact of having had one or several claims in the past or during the contract does not impact on the premium.

Mobiliz offers complete protection to all of its drivers, that is, "two way insurance" with a single deductible of $250. The program's only option is replacement value for vehicles aged 5 years or less. Insured who is not satisfied with Mobiliz services can terminate their agreement at any time, at no cost.

Let us recall that, according to the statistics compiled by the SAAQ, young drivers aged 16 to 24 are overrepresented in road accidents: although they constituted only 10% of driver's licence holders, they were involved in 24 % of the accidents resulting in bodily injury in 2010. In 2009, young drivers committed 49% of speeding or reckless driving offences. From 2006 to 2010, speed was a factor in 52% of fatal accidents involving drivers aged 16 to 24.

Our ITSM accelerators take our most demanded services and package them into a suite of four "easy to digest" and affordable offerings. The intent is to provide services that can Jumpstart an ITSM program while being respectful of an organization's time and money.

These highly prescriptive offerings, priced at the equivalent of one person-week of consulting, are delivered over the Internet using our ITOptimizer SaaS product and other modern collaborations tools. Client's save the travel expenses and have the flexibility to schedule the delivery to fit into their busy schedule - up to six elapsed weeks.

The Service Offerings include:

  • Blueprint - accelerate the design, documentation and implementation of a single ITIL® based process
  • Verify - maximize Service Management ROI through the establishment of an effective ITSM governance program
  • Mentor - get expert ITSM help when you need it and on your schedule

Each of these offerings starts with an initial planning session and is delivered through a combination of "virtual" interviews, meetings and workshops. There is a detailed project plan that clearly spells out customer involvement and our deliverables. Satisfaction is guaranteed or you don't pay.

"IT organizations are juggling a lot of demands these days. They know ITSM is important but they are looking for an approach that fits into their timeline and budget, not that of the consulting companies," says David Mainville CEO and Co-founder of Consulting-Portal. "While not a fit for every organization, these service accelerators are the right approach for a company with limited resources and a desire to get things done quickly."

Whether you are just beginning your ITSM journey, are looking to implement a new ITSM tool, or are a mature organization looking to improve your processes, our ITSM Service Accelerators provide exceptional value. When combined with the ITOptimizer, our Business Process Management software, these services are the most affordable and effective way to bring the benefits of IT Service Management to your organization.
