WATERLOO, ON, Jan. 30, 2012 /CNW/ - OpenText (NASDAQ: OTEX, TSX: OTC) announced that it has continued to extend its leadership as a global information governance solution provider by becoming the first major ECM vendor to achieve VERS certification for its records management solution with Microsoft SharePoint 2010.  With this accomplishment, OpenText further establishes itself as the premier partner for information governance solutions that extend and enhance SharePoint 2010.

VERS, which stands for Victorian Electronic Records Strategy, is a globally respected standard for capturing, managing and preserving electronic records and most Australian corporations and government agencies require that records management solutions achieve certification. VERS consists of a framework of standards centered around the goal of reliably and authentically archiving electronic records. In order to be certified, products must undergo rigorous, independent testing by the VERS organization and demonstrate that all requirements of the standard are fully met.

Meets Global Requirements

Introduced last year, OpenText Application Governance & Archiving for Microsoft SharePoint 2010 provides integrated end-to-end management of SharePoint 2010 sites and documents across an entire enterprise.  With VERS certification along with existing U.S. Department of Defense 5015.02-STD v3 certification for this solution, organizations can now confidently deploy SharePoint 2010 with the knowledge that regulatory and legal requirements for records management around the globe are being fully addressed.

A globally managed, strategic Microsoft Gold Certified Partner, OpenText has a close working relationship with Microsoft. As detailed in the online resource center at www.Better-Together-Central.com, Microsoft and OpenText are working closely to help companies around the world enable an effective and holistic compliance framework to address information spread across the enterprise. OpenText was named 2011 ISV Line of Business Partner of the Year in Australia and was a finalist for 2011 Global ISV Partner of the Year.

"For customers in highly regulated industries and government agencies, compliance with major standards for records management and archiving is critical to their ability to deploy SharePoint 2010 strategically across the enterprise," said Gianpaolo Carraro, Director, Microsoft Australia. "By taking on the effort to achieve VERS certification, OpenText demonstrates the value of a strong ecosystem in helping customers get maximum benefit from their investment in the Microsoft platform."

Take Control of SharePoint Sites

Through use of OpenText Application Governance & Archiving for Microsoft SharePoint 2010, enterprises can take control over SharePoint sites to enforce broader compliance and archiving policies and lower ongoing administration and storage costs. It also helps to improve user productivity by opening access to all enterprise content from within SharePoint, ultimately increasing the value of content by giving corporations a robust, well-managed long-term corporate memory.

"With the volume of content continuing to expand at an alarming pace, information governance and records management has taken on an increasingly vital role within organizations. As the clear market and technology leader in information governance, OpenText places a high priority on meeting the full spectrum of global standards," said Graham Pullen, Vice President and General Manager, Asia-Pacific for OpenText.

This latest certification detailed here reinforces, extends and complements other information governance certifications for OpenText offerings, including:

  • U.S. Department of Defense 5015.02-STD v3 certification, including Classified Records

    • OpenText Records Management
    • OpenText Application Governance & Archiving for Microsoft® SharePoint®
    • OpenText Extended ECM for SAP® Solutions
    • OpenText Records Management with eDOCS 5.2
  • The National Archives Electronic Records Management Systems certification - UK Governments 2002 req
  • ISO 15489 compliance

REGINA, Feb. 2, 2012 /CNW/ - Registration for the 2012 National Infrastructure Summit, occurring September 10 to 12, 2012 in Regina, has officially opened. With attendance at the 2011 Summit reaching 350 delegates, and with 94% of attendees surveyed stating they will be returning to the 2012 Summit, now is the time to register for the early bird discounted rate.

As planning continues for the 2012 Summit, new and exciting features are being added, including presentations on how municipalities can become "Smart Cities", using real time data which enables decision-makers to resolve issues on a more proactive basis with fewer service disruptions.

Also featured is the Morph My City Challenge, launched earlier this month. Divided into two prizes, the challenge invites teams to submit long-term, step-by-step designs, using an undeveloped Regina green space or canola field (Greenfield Prize) and an existing Regina neighbourhood (2040 Prize), and morphing them into innovative, long-term, sustainable urban neighbourhoods.

"We have received an overwhelming response to the competition, which only recently opened. Over 2500 interested parties from over 75 countries have expressed interest in the competition, which is sure to deliver innovative, global and unique submissions," said City of Regina Councillor and Summit Chair, Mike O'Donnell.

Also featured will be practical approaches in the areas of innovation, citizen engagement, discussions on balancing levels of service with public expectations, and how to finance and create program models that meet infrastructure needs. The 2012 Summit will also offer an Invitational Innovative Showcase, allowing private sector companies to demonstrate innovative products to municipal decision-makers.

"While progress on the infrastructure file has occurred by all orders of government in the last decade, there is much more work that needs to be done. The 2012 Summit offers the opportunity to continue the collaborative efforts required to better prepare municipalities for 21st Century challenges and opportunities," Mayor Pat Fiacco said. "We encourage all infrastructure partners and stakeholders to attend the 2012 National Infrastructure Summit; an opportunity to become involved in creating the change that innovation and growth brings."

TORONTO, Feb. 6, 2012 /CNW/ - Microsoft Canada is challenging Canadian high school and post-secondary students to imagine a world where technology helps solve the toughest problems during the Imagine Cup Canada 2012. Registration is now open for this global competition which requires students to creatively use technology to solve real-world problems.

Students can register for Imagine Cup Canada 2012 at www.microsoft.ca/imaginecup to compete in one of two Canadian platform categories: Windows Phone 7 Game Design, registration closes February 14; and Software Design, registration closes March 13. "The Imagine Cup is a global competition that empowers and inspires passion and idealism in students and encourages them to apply classroom learning to solve real-world problems," said Gladstone Grant, Vice President, Developer & Platform Group, Microsoft Canada Inc.  "Microsoft is proud to support our Canadian students through this annual competition which cultivates a spirit of social and technological entrepreneurialism."

By participating in the Imagine Cup 2012, students have the chance to learn new technological skills and win cash, grants and prizes.  They also have the opportunity to network with peers, pursue career opportunities and test themselves against the brightest students from around the world.  Last year, more than 350,000 students representing 183 countries and regions entered the competition.

"Competing in the Imagine Cup is a unique experience that offers students the opportunity to creatively apply classroom learning to real-world problems, while pushing the envelope to create ideas never thought of before," said William Hoang, Engineer Team Lead on team Bamboo & Papyrus: embedded software design, 1st place finalist Imagine Cup Canada 2009.  "At the same time, students gain valuable technical skills and learn how to overcome challenges while building friendships and gaining real-world experience. For inspiration, students can review some of the world's most challenging social issues as identified within the United Nations' Millennium Development Goals. From designing mobile healthcare applications to enabling access to quality education for all children and creating mobile games that teach youth disease prevention or environmental sustainability, young social innovators are using technology to make a difference in the life of people around the world and in their own communities. Canadian students can also enter to compete globally in additional categories as identified on the global Imagine Cup website.

Every student team has the opportunity to engage a mentor - someone to inspire them, answer their questions and guide them through the competition.  Mentors can be faculty members from the students' schools or industry experts who wish to support the next generation of student developers.  More details on mentorship can be found on the Canadian Imagine Cup website.

Users can specify what they're offering, the price they charge (could be free), and when it is happening. People can instantly discover, book, and pay for the listing through the website.  Uniiverse enables anyone to become an entrepreneur, meet like-minded people, share their passions - and live a smarter, happier, more sustainable lifestyle. Watch the concept video: http://uv.rs/AfCSNG

Let's draw on our strengths… to maintain our quality of life

MONTREAL, Feb. 6, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - Quebec premier Jean Charest, accompanied by Economic Development, Innovation and Export Trade minister Sam Hamad and Employment and Social Solidarity minister Julie Boulet, will be meeting today with the Council of Economic Partners and the Commission des partenaires du marché du travail to discuss Quebec's economic and employment situation. In advance of this joint meeting, here is a statement by Quebec Employers Council president Yves-Thomas Dorval:

« Quebec premier Jean Charest recently began conducting a series of meetings with economic "watch teams" that have been set up in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis.  The aim of this initiative is to enable him to bring the government's various partners, including the Quebec Employers Council, up to date on the economic and employment situation and identify the economic opportunities for Quebec to seize in 2012.

This issue should most definitely be at the core of the 2012-13 budget plan that Quebec Finance Minister Raymond Bachand will be tabling in the next few weeks.  The government will need to make some strategic choices among the many legitimate demands of the various societal groups according to the priorities Quebecers hold dear, whether they are education, transportation, culture or the environment.

In the short term, if the government wants to maintain a proper safety net for all Quebecers, it will have no choice but to refocus its actions if it hopes to have the required room to manœuvre to fulfill the missions it deems essential. Quebecers' disposable-income pie is indeed limited; it would be irresponsible to ask citizens and businesses to provide a greater effort to fund new government initiatives without ending other programs in return.   But in the longer term, it is clear that if Quebec society wants to preserve its generous social programs, the government will have to put the conditions in place to foster the growth of this economic pie, thereby allowing every Quebecer to prosper, so they can continue to enjoy their enviable quality of life.

Quebec, a society that draws strength from its distinctive nature

Every analyst has noted: the province of Quebec came though the last economic crisis that began in 2008 in relatively good shape in relation to other world economies. This fact is undoubtedly due in large measure to the diversity of its economy and its vast infrastructure program.  Now that the situation seems to have returned to "normal", and some governments have caught up to and even surpassed us, it is time to fully tap into the many assets we benefit from as a society, including our abundant natural resources, our enviable geopolitical position, our top-notch institutions and human resources, our peaceful social climate, our unmatched quality of life, our many economic development centres, our highly regarded creativity and our unique culture.

These are all tangible assets in which we can take pride, as I have had the opportunity of mentioning in many speaking forums over the last few months.

Major challenges for a sustainable prosperity

This definite quality of life which Quebecers enjoy should not, however, let us be lulled into a smug indifference. The Quebec Employers Council believes there are many challenges that call for an evolution of our subsistent collective values so that Quebec society can aspire to greater prosperity.

Among the issues that should provide all Quebecers with something to ponder, a better balance between the enjoyment of life, which we all want to preserve, and the sense of responsibility required to maintain our standard of living, seems essential, as does a more positive perception of success and wealth. A change in this regard has to start by a greater openness to economic development, better collective support to bold new initiatives and higher risk tolerance, but from a sustainable development perspective. In other words, banding together to determine the conditions that are needed to see projects to fruition rather than combining forces in an effort to derail them.

As a society we should also encourage more entrepreneurship, the primary engine of economic growth, and innovation, which enables us to better compete in a sustainable manner. On this issue, we believe restructuring can be done to some of the government's financial aid programs, without adding more money, to support a range of innovative initiatives. These include developing the added value of a product or service, investing in productivity improvement in the area of equipment, process, work organization and continuing education, and supporting enhanced commercialization in lead markets.

These are the challenges we are putting forth  to Quebecers for the coming years, so that we can fulfill our dreams and collective aspirations, and advance a Quebec model where there is a better balance between enjoyment of life and responsibility, a model that could then be recognized and admired worldwide, starting by right here at home.

Can Canada Produce its Own Steve Jobs?

$
0

TORONTO, ONTARIO --(Marketwire - February 03, 2012) -

Attention: Business and Technology Editors

In today's economic climate, innovation and competitiveness co-exist as a necessity for survival. Globalization has changed business dynamics and the supply chain, forcing business to make bold changes to how they operate and compete. The ability to be innovative is essential.

Canadian authors, Alexander Bosika and John Thompson, set out to discover if Canada has the right stuff, to compete in the 21st century. Tracing back to the nation's early historical roots, we discover a surprising range of inventions, which helped catapult Canadian business to significant new levels.

Historically, there's much to be proud for but today's media is unrelenting in its view that Canada has already lost the innovation game. In any general poll, Canadians are lost in naming more than a few innovative firms like Research in Motion, Nortel, and Bombardier. For most Canadians and many trading partners, Canada is still viewed as a resource economy with an increasing dependence on raw materials to fuel its economic growth.

This flies directly against a long history of innovation and resourcefulness forced by Canada's climate, geography, and experience. We've always been highly adaptable because we've had to be. What limits this strength and how do we overcome it?

Will Canada's wealth in future decades thrive on the staples theory, developed by historian Harold Innis in the 1920's, to explain Canada's development as a provider of valuable raw resources. Will we always be 'hewers of wood' and 'drawers of water'? Or will we finally start to play to our true strengths, allowing our economy to thrive with the development of new products or processes?

Canadians are increasingly viewed as a high-skilled labour force with a desirable talent pool but everyone realizes innovation and inventiveness are the key ways to maintaining our standard of living.

"This is a clarion call to Canadians, government and business that we must identify, re-define, and re-focus our energies to the spirit of innovation and inventiveness," said John Thompson. "In a funny way, no one remembers the people behind the idea in the first place, and far too often, others perfect the idea and emerge to rule the day. Sadly, the Canadian media does a terrible job promoting Made-in-Canada ingenuity in technology and other sectors of business," added Alexander Bosika.

Both authors are scheduled to release their "made for Kindle" digital book this year because the message is urgent and there isn't time to wait for the old paradigm publishing models to support their passionate cause. Ironically, a previous Harvard Business Review report by Gary Pisano and Willy Shih describes how Kindle, Amazon's electronic and Android-based reader, could never be developed in North America because the ability to manufacture high-tech components was lost in the 1990's with outsourcing to Asian firms who ultimately moved up the value chain to compete against North American business in the technology sector.

To stay in touch with the authors and to join their Kindle release mailing list, readers can add their email address at www.CanadianCrunch.com. Alexander Bosika, through his corporation, owns the domain with plans to expand its mandate to ultimately benefit the Canadian technology sector in the future.

CRTC completes review of telecommunications regulations

$

OTTAWA-GATINEAU, Feb. 9, 2012 /CNW/ - Today, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) completed a comprehensive review of over 80 telecommunications regulations, which resulted in the elimination or streamlining of over 60 per cent of these regulations. Regulations that are in the public interest, such as those relating to 911 services, accessibility and customer privacy, were left unchanged.

"Service providers should have as much flexibility as possible to bring innovative communications services to Canadians," said Leonard Katz, the CRTC's Acting Chairman and Vice-Chairman of Telecommunications. "We have gone to great lengths to reduce costs and red tape for the industry by ensuring that our regulatory measures don't interfere with a competitive marketplace, while maintaining necessary protection for Canadians."

In 2007, the CRTC embarked on a comprehensive review of its telecommunications regulations following the government's policy direction to rely as much as possible on market forces. During its review, the CRTC removed 23 regulations, modified or streamlined 28 regulations and maintained 33 regulations. The review was concluded today with the publication of a decision regarding telephone wiring.

In today's decision, the CRTC directed telephone companies, if their customers experience a problem with their phone line and do not have a jack-ended demarcation device (a special jack commonly found either in the basement or outside the home), to provide a free diagnostic service. Companies must install this jack following the diagnostic service, after which customers can perform the diagnostic themselves by plugging their phone into it. If they hear a dial tone, then the problem is with the inside wiring and they can choose a repair service. If they do not hear a dial tone, then the problem is in the network outside and the telephone company must repair it free of charge.

Going forward, the CRTC will continue to favour market forces and carefully weigh the need for any new regulations. In particular, the CRTC will be mindful of the administrative burden any proposed requirement, enforcement measure or penalty may create for small Canadian businesses.

CGA-Canada Launches National Search Tool to Find Accountants

VANCOUVER, Feb. 8, 2012 /CNW/ - The Certified General Accountants of Canada (CGA-Canada) today launched the Need an Accountant website, the first searchable, national directory of CGA public practice professionals.

The Need an Accountant website offers a convenient, comprehensive and free online service to easily locate certified general accountants (CGAs) in communities across Canada. This new tool makes it easier for users to compare professionals by using the industry sector or services offered search criteria to assist in deciding which firm to work with. At the same time, the search directory gives public practice firms an opportunity to promote their businesses to potential clients.

"We are pleased to launch this site and bring value to the public and our members," says Anthony Ariganello, CGA-Canada's President and CEO. "Taxes represent one of the many services, including assurance, that CGAs provide and now there is a tool to help individuals and businesses find the right professional in time for tax season."

A survey1 commissioned by CGA-Canada found that one in two Canadians hired a professional accountant to prepare their personal income tax return. Three in ten affirm that they completed their own, while two in ten report that they enlisted the help of a friend or relative.

"With so many Canadians looking for accounting services, we saw an opportunity to increase accessibility to CGAs across Canada and provide information on tax resources available to both businesses and the general public," Ariganello continued.

Canadians using the search tool can select a location, an industry or an area of expertise and obtain the chosen accountant's office coordinates, driving directions and map. These details can then be directly emailed to a user's mobile phone.

Also available in time for tax season, CGA-Canada offers a tax portal with a list of professional development courses offered by PDNet, essential tax resources such as the 2011/12 Personal Tax Planning book, a printable, at-a-glance 2012 calendar of important tax dates, and tax news and tips.

To find an accountant, visit http://www.needanaccountant.org/
To browse Canadian tax resources, visit http://www.cga-pdnet.org/en-CA/pd/Pages/taxes-in-canada.aspx

1 A survey regarding Canadian views on Tax Simplification was completed by Nanos Research in June 2011.

Note to editors: CGAs in your area are available for interviews. A list of Top 10 tax tips and copies of the Personal Tax Planning Book can also be provided.

Usage of 'Touch' Mobile-Centric Social Connectivity Platform Outpaces First Two Years of Twitter

"Touch" has Served More Than 100 Million One-On-One Messages, Nearly 10 Million Group Messages and Enabled Users to Create 200,000 Experiences With Closest Relationships

WATERLOO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Feb. 8, 2012) -
The creators of TextNow, the leading free and unlimited picture and text messaging application, today announced that in less than two months since launching their interpersonal connectivity platform "Touch," it has achieved significant market traction and already served more than 100 million one-on-one messages and nearly 10 million group messages. In fact, usage of the Touch mobile social networking platform has outpaced total usage for the first two years of Twitter. The usage of Touch has exceeded all expectations, growing at a more rapid rate than even TextNow, the wildly popular free texting application that currently serves 1.3 billion impressions per month.

"The astonishing response to Touch reinforces our strong belief that people want a more intimate social experience with their closest personal relationships," said Derek Ting, co-founder and CEO, Enflick. "Touch gives individuals real-time, instant connectivity with family and friends straight from their mobile device."

Touch delivers a single, seamless and easy-to-use application that allows individuals to engage in real-time with their closest personal relationships from any phone for instantaneous chats and photo and experience sharing. Designed and optimized for mobile devices, Touch is effortless to set up, allowing individuals to immediately connect with their most important relationships.

"Touch" Takes Off - Numbers Exceed All Expectations

Touch fills a market gap that exists today by delivering a platform that strengthens a person's closest relationships. With larger social networks or groups, hundreds of 'acquaintances' or groups are constantly generating updates, making it difficult to stay close and intimate with those who matter the most. Touch leverages smartphones to enable an immediate, intimate and seamless way to connect with a person's innermost circle of family and friends.

Since its launch in December 2011, Touch has already served:

  • More than 106 million one-on-one messages - connecting friends and family in real-time conversations;
  • Nearly 10 million group messages - supporting spontaneous group chats among close friends;
  • More than 200 thousand Experiences - through customized profile pages allowing friends and family to enjoy mutually shared Experiences and photos; and
  • More than 1 million comments in Experiences.

The combined numbers reflect how seamlessly Touch can be integrated into users' lifestyles, as well as the growing desire among users for a more intimate and real-time social networking experience.

Touch Brings Meaningful Connections to Intersecting Social and Mobile Trends

Touch addresses three intersecting trends: the popularity of social networking; the enormous growth of mobile devices; and an increasing desire to strengthen personal relationships.

In a December 2011 report entitled "It's a Social World: Top 10 Need-to-Knows About Social Networking and Where It's Headed," Comscore reports that social networking is the most popular online activity worldwide - accounting for nearly 1 in every 5 minutes spent online and that mobile devices are fueling the growth. According to analytics firm Flurry, social networking now accounts for almost 30 percent of all time spent on mobile applications.

Touch addresses both of these intersecting trends and meets a third and emerging trend - the desire to easily connect with one's most important relationships and filter out the noise of larger social networking sites.

The Touch Experience can be easily downloaded at touch.com. Touch supports iOS devices (OS version 3.0+), as well as the Android (1.5-2.3) and BlackBerry (5.0+).

About Enflick

Headquartered in Waterloo, Ontario, Enflick is a leading provider of real-time social software solutions designed to transform the way that individuals connect with each other online. Its Touch platform delivers a single, unified mobile connectivity solution that makes keeping in touch with close friends and family an immediate, intuitive and completely seamless experience. More than 25 million users worldwide use Enflick's TextNow and Touch applications, serving 1.3 billion impressions per month. Since TextNow went viral in 2009, Enflick has achieved a 400 percent year-over-year growth.

Enflick is committed to designing user-friendly products that make connecting online easier and simulate how people engage in real life with the exact same immediacy and continuity. Enflick was recently named a company to watch in the 2011 Deloitte Technology Fast 50Ô Awards for its innovative technology and entrepreneurship and potential as a future leader in the Canadian technology industry. Morneau Shepell Introduces New Online 'Enhancing Your Relationship' Program

$

TORONTO, Feb. 6, 2012 /CNW/ - Just in time for Valentine's Day, Morneau Shepell Ltd., under the Shepell•fgi Employee Assistance Program (EAP), has launched the new online Enhancing Your Relationship Program that helps individuals and couples achieve a greater overall understanding of and satisfaction in their intimate relationships. Users are able to access the program anytime, anywhere and can work through relationship exercises and resources at their own pace and convenience.

"One of the top three issues people reach out to us for assistance each year is about their relationships," says Barb Veder, Clinical Director, Morneau Shepell. "We continually receive questions such as 'what defines a healthy relationship?' 'how can I improve my relationship with my partner?,' and 'how do I ensure that my partner and I can really talk to and hear each other?'"

The program educates participants on the key principles of healthy relationships. Users can access resources on their own or work through them with their partner. As they move through the program, they will explore their own responses to the way they currently think about their relationship.

Expert articles and videos serve as a starting point to educate participants on communication, conflict resolution, etc. and encourage behavioural and attitudinal change. Users have the flexibility to choose resources customized to their needs and preferences, including ordering additional expert-chosen reading materials online, and navigating interactive activities, quizzes, exercises and resource guides. Fun features include the ability to send interactive 'Love Coupons' to their special someone.

The program is a result of Morneau Shepell's mandate to increase awareness around mental health in the workplace. Explains Veder, "High work stress has been linked to marital conflict, family stress, and poor performance in both work and family roles. Conversely, we also witness the toll that problematic personal relationships take on workplace productivity and engagement. Everything is connected."

The costs of unhealthy relationships are not trivial. Studies indicate that employers could reduce absenteeism by 6.5% and save $1 billion per year in direct costs if they eliminate high levels of work-to-family interference. Employees with high work-to-family interference are also 6.7 times more likely to say they would leave their jobs to have more time for themselves and their families. Other studies show that divorce can affect employee productivity and effectiveness for three to five years, or longer.

The online Enhancing Your Relationship Program is best suited for individuals who are looking to improve their relationships and are at ease using online solutions. It's also ideal for those who prefer to work through things at their own speed.

"It is clear that there is a direct connection between employees' healthy personal relationships and workplace productivity," says Rita Fridella, Senior Vice-President, Operations and Chief Clinician, Morneau Shepell. "Our online relationship program provides timely support while also catering to our client's demand for online products, perfectly complementing our existing EAP mental health and work/life balance services."

The online Enhancing Your Relationship Program is available to EAP members and their families by calling the Care Access Centre or via Online Access (Canada) at workhealthlife.com.

A Single Web Analytics Tool Is Not Enough | iPerceptions Study

MONTREAL--(Marketwire - Feb 14, 2012) - iPerceptions Inc. (TSX VENTURE: IPE), a leading provider of online Voice of Customer (VoC) analytics based on actual visitor feedback, today announced the release of its Retail Web Analytics Report for 2011. The report found that the use of more than one web analytics tool nearly doubled in the last year, from 33% in 2010 to 62% in 2011. The results suggest that retailers recognize the importance of evaluating and addressing the entire website visitor experience.

"Until this year, the use of more than one web analytics tool was unusual, with the majority of retailers making decisions based on a single source of information," said Claude Guay, President and CEO of iPerceptions. "But in 2011, using multiple tools became the norm and retailers began allotting more resources to the collection and analysis of website data."

According to the report, there was a substantial increase in the share of retailers who were using at least four web analytics tools, from just 1% in 2010 to a noteworthy 15% in 2011. The report also pointed to an increase in the use of other, lesser-known web analytics tools as part of retailers' online measurement toolkit.

In 2011, more than half (55%) of all retail websites used ad network tools (up from one third) and the use of Search Engine Marketing (SEM) more than doubled to 20%. Voice of Customer (VoC) tools, such as iPerceptions' webValidator Continuous Listening Solution and 4Q Suite, gained significant market share -- suggesting that retailers are putting a stronger emphasis on listening to the voice of their customers.

This year, the use of clickstream analytics was nearly universal among retail websites at 98%. There has been a steady increase in usage over the last 3 years, as retailers rely more and more on clickstream data to make website and business decisions. However, while Google Analytics has gained market share, from 62% in 2010 to 68% in 2011, the use of less popular clickstream analytics tools has increased even more dramatically, from 18% to 24% during the same time period.

The report was generated using iPerceptions' Web Analytics Solution Profiler (WASP) tool. Specifically, the homepages of the Internet Retailer Top 500 Retail Websites were loaded into the WASP crawler, which produced detailed web analytics tool information for the 493 websites that were operational at the time.
